Two Arrested After Shooting Incident in West Columbia
Police in West Columbia have made two arrests following a shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon near Augusta Road.
According to the West Columbia Police Department, 19-year-old Jaeden Jones and 18-year-old Ty’ron Bethea were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Jones faces several charges including attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, criminal conspiracy, and possession of marijuana. Bethea was charged with possession of marijuana.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 4:30 p.m. near 2401 Augusta Road, an address associated with a Walmart location in West Columbia. When police arrived, they found evidence suggesting multiple vehicles may have been involved in the incident.
Investigators reported that dispatch initially received information about a white Chevrolet Tahoe connected to the shooting, although that vehicle was not found at the scene. Authorities later located a gray Nissan Altima believed to be involved, as well as a third vehicle in the Walmart parking lot with a shattered window.
Witnesses told police they saw two armed suspects running toward Beverly Drive shortly after the gunfire. When officers arrived in that area, several people flagged them down and pointed toward a nearby wooded area. Police eventually located three suspects in the woods, two of whom matched witness descriptions and were detained.
Authorities say a third suspect fled the area, possibly heading back toward the Walmart along nearby railroad tracks. Police have not confirmed whether that individual has been identified or remains at large.
Investigators also found multiple shell casings in the parking lot, although officials have not confirmed whether the shooting itself occurred directly at the Walmart location. Fortunately, no injuries were immediately reported.
Both suspects were booked into the Lexington County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
Police say the case remains an active investigation, and additional details may be released as more information becomes available.
